Installation Instructions. 1. Take down any hanger rods and remove all shelves and molding from the closet. 2. Determine how many square feet of cedar closet liner is needed: Obtain the measurements of all walls to be covered. Calculate the area of each wall by multiplying the height of that wall by its width. If a wall has a doorway, multiply its height by its width and subtract the result from the total area of that wall. The area of all walls added together gives you the total square footage of cedar closet liner needed for your project.3. Locate wall studs and mark a line down the center of each stud from ceiling to floor.4. If covering drywall, affix cedar closet liner using 1.5" panel nails. Nail through the drywall into the studs. If affixing directly to studs use 1" panel nails. Sub floor adhesive may also be used (please follow the manufacturer's instructions). 5. Starting in a corner at the bottom of the wall to be covered, place the first cedar closet liner grooved side down. Continue with other pieces end to end with the grooved sides down. Measure and cut the last piece to fit. It is very important that this first row is level. Start the second row with a short random-length piece placing the cedar closet linings end to end until the last closet liner of that row is cut to length. Continue succeeding rows as with the first two making sure that all ends are staggered. Cut the cedar closet liners of the top row to fit then start as before on the next wall until all walls are covered. Save small short pieces to go around windows and doors. Maintenance Aromatic cedar closet liner contains cedar oil. The source for that wonderful scent which moths, silverfish and other pests hate. As the wood releases this scent, the oil slowly begins to crystallize on the surface of the board. This creates a microscopically thin barrier, which after five or six years will begin to lock in the aroma of the wood. Not to worry though, a light sanding is all that is needed to remove this barrier. With only this small amount of maintenance once or twice a decade these cedar closet liners will give you a lifetime of protective service and beauty.
